Cheng Hsin
Wouldn’t we all like to be effortlessly powerful? To move with grace and agility? To face challenges in a relaxed and confident manner? To be calm and clear under pressure? To act with the focus and intensity that we admire in a tiger in the jungle?
The Cheng Hsin Martial Art of Effortless Power is designed to explore and develop the qualities necessary to be, as its name suggests, effortlessly powerful.
Cheng Hsin techniques share the fluid and spiralling qualities of Aikido, along with the principle of joining with, rather than fighting against, an opponent. Students also practice skills for uprooting like those found in Tai Chi, and throwing techniques like those of Judo. The Art of Effortless Power emphasizes footwork and manoeuvrability inspired by Pa Kua Chang and designed to enable agile boxing skills.
The practice of Cheng Hsin includes many exercises for retraining our bodies and nervous systems, and to explore new ways of moving and relating.
Unlike Aikido, which has no competitive component to its practice, Cheng Hsin has a wide variety of games to develop improvisational ability. This not only challenges and stretches the student, it is a lot of fun!
The Cheng Hsin Martial Art of Effortless Power is a fun and rewarding physical activity that also addresses how our senses and mind operate. There is a clear system of study, designed to create opportunities for personal breakthroughs that lead to more effective and fulfilling results while giving plenty of scope for experimentation.
